The Université Côte d'Azur now has a Center for Creativity and Innovation in Fragrance Science

The Center for Creativity and Innovation in Fragrance Science (CCISO) is an "off-campus" structure that was created in 2017 to meet the requirement for the Université Côte d'Azur to interface more effectively with the perfume, flavor and cosmetics industry ecosystem in the region. It is designed on the model of the Université Côte d’Azur Reference Centers, with a more specific approach in relation to one of the major local challenges.

Supported by the UCA Jedi Initiative of Excellence, the CCISO, led by Sylvain Antoniotti, CNRS Research Director at the Nice Institute of Chemistry, aims to increase the quality and quantity of public/private research with local companies in the field of perfumes and flavors. The main target remains the perfume companies, but relationships with other sectors in which the expertise of the Université Cote d'Azur in the field of fragrances can be commercialized are also developing.

Help with the establishment of projects and a training network
The Center of Creativity and Innovation in Fragrance Science will continue in its role as a facilitator for collaborative public-private research and innovation. It is based in Grasse and aligned with the ERINI collaborative R&D platform, which was created by the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, the CNRS, the PRODAROM perfume trade association and the PASS competitiveness cluster. Novel ingredients, new processes, new applications and new technologies, fragrance science can contribute in a very diverse way to innovation in the field of flavors, perfumes, cosmetics and beyond. The Center's mission will be to promote this approach to innovation through the emergence of new applications or processes. It will also financially support some projects that need an initial boost.

Another mission that is entrusted to this new entity is to establish a training network for the science of fragrances, including the development of new training programs that correspond to new professions and industry requirements. These courses will be designed to fit into the professional campus and flavor, perfume, and cosmetics qualifications that are being established by the Université Côte d'Azur with the Nice and Aix-Marseille boards of education, and the Provence Alpes Côte d 'Azur Regional Council.
