The Université Côte d'Azur receives Patrick Gilabert from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization

Future industry, sustainable development goals, forum on science, innovation, and technology: these are some of the topics at the heart of the visit by Patrick Gilabert, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at the Université Côte d'Azur on 24 and 25 January.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations whose mission is to promote the development of industrial policies, the creation of new industries and the improvement of existing industries with inclusive globalization and sustainable development. Patrick Gilabert, Deputy Representative of UNIDO came to the University Côte d'Azur on January 24th and 25th. The objective of both parties is to raise awareness of good practices for the COMUE in the emerging countries and according to the United Nations in terms of research on the industry 4.0, sustainable innovation, and the smart and connected city.

On the agenda for these two days: a conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for master’s students from the Mediterranean Institute for Risk, Environment and Sustainable Development (IMREDD), and the Research Group in Law, Economy, and Management (Gredeg) at Sophia Antipolis. These meetings provided an opportunity for discussion between participants and Patrick Gilabert on the implementation of the SDGs, particularly SDG 9 on industry, infrastructure and innovation and SDG 11 on cities and sustainable communities.

Patrick Gilabert also visited the Valrose campus, the IMREDD smart city innovation center and the Sustainable Design School".

Then he was welcomed by Jean Leonetti, President of the Sophia Antipolis Urban Community, at the Sophia Antipolis Business Pole. He met with officials of the CCI, competitiveness clusters SAFE and SCS to discuss the role of Sophia Antipolis in organizing a conference on the industry of the future. He visited the Accenture Innovation Center and also met the Program Director of the Innovative City Conference in Nice, Jean-Marc Molina.

The UNIDO representative reiterated the wish to organize a future industry event in partnership with the Université Côte d'Azur at the next Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation of the United Nations, which will take place in NYC on June 5th and 6th.
