Master in Economics: Social Interactions and Economic Dynamics

The program

 

The two-year program 'Social Interactions and Economic Dynamics' is one of the two specialisations of the Master 'Economie' of Université Côte d'Azur. The aim of the program is to train future researchers in economics and social sciences, and will provide students an intensive training to economic modelling and statistical techniques to conduct top-level research in quantitative social sciences.

In addition to quantitative techniques, students will receive a training in behavioural and experimental economics, game theory, and financial markets, and will have the opportunity to pursue a PhD in one of these fields upon completing the program.

The program is entirely taught in English, and thus welcomes both French and international students.

 





Objectives

A training in various fields in quantitative social sciences...

  • Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of public policies (based on the statistical analyses of large databases)
  • Behavioural and experimental economics
  • Game theory (networks, behavioural and evolutionary game theory)
  • Financial markets

An intensive research-based training...

  • Students are required to produce a master thesis in the first and second year of the program
  • Regular participation in the research seminars of the GREDEG research centre
  • Mandatory research internship for the 2nd semester of the 2nd year
  • Two free days per week to let the opportunity to students to make progress on their research

Skills you will acquire...

  • Processing large databases (including complex network processing)
  • Design and implementation of economic experiments (e.g. to test the effectiveness of a public policy measure)
  • Modelling and analysing in a complex environment, with the ability to formulate testable hypotheses
  • Ability to communicate technical results
  • Management of a work program



 

Professional opportunities

The main objective of the program is to train future researchers and university lecturers in economics and social sciences. Upon completing the program, you will thus have the opportunity to pursue a PhD in economics and social sciences.

In addition to this academic path, you will also be able to apply for consultant positions to conduct technical studies in either public administrations, consulting firms, or international organisations.

Applications

Before applying

  • Applicants must be able to prove their proficiency in English. The knowledge of French is not mandatory.
  • Applicants should be comfortable with economics, econometrics, statistics or mathematics, and must have successfully completed (or expected to complete) undergraduate program in Economics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Social Sciences, Computer Sciences, and related fields.
  • Applicants who do not satisfy the conditions above are however encouraged to apply, but may have to follow refresher courses before starting the programme
