The scientific "signature" of DS4H

A common Scientific signature for Université Côte d'Azur

The use of a common signature, i.e., the uniform listing of academic affiliations in research publications, is imperative: most notably, it will help ensure the recognition of Université Côte d’Azur by its peers and its presence in international rankings. The Université Côte d’Azur governance will be extremely vigilant concerning the use of the common signature, and will implement all necessary means to ensure that it is correctly applied.

Université Côte d’Azur has adopted a policy by which affiliations should be listed in descending order (from the most broadly encompassing structure to the smallest), and using a single-line presentation. These choices are perfectly in line with the modes of operation of the latest search engines.

While the order of the affiliations is not important in principle, Université Côte d’Azur has elected to use the following order:

  • To highlight the common vision of the community, it is desirable that the name Université Côte d’Azur is listed first; the abbreviation "UCA" cannot be used because it is already in use by other institutions.
  • Next, the names of the establishment or organization that the laboratory or research team belongs to should be listed—with the exception of the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, as referring successively to two universities reduces the respective impact of each institution in international rankings by a factor of two.  At this level, it may be relevant to begin with the employing establishments; this order has been imposed, for example, on Inria researchers within joint project teams; it is recommended for others (with the exception of UNS teacher-researchers)
  • The names of the establishments or organizations should be followed by the abbreviated name of the laboratory, and by this name only. Do not include extended laboratory names, numbers of the UMR or Inserm unit, etc.
  • The address should be limited to the country only

The extended name of the laboratory and its different identifying numbers, as well as the complete address of the laboratory, should therefore be provided in a footnote, unless another format is imposed by the journal or publisher.

Examples
  • An OCA researcher at the Géoazur: Université Côte d’Azur, Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, CNRS, IRD, Géoazur, France
  • A CNRS researcher in a joint project team of the LJAD: Université Côte d’Azur, CNRS, Inria, LJAD, France
  • An Inria reseacher in a joint project team of the LJAD: Université Côte d’Azur, Inria, CNRS, LJAD, France
  • An Inria reseacher in a (non-joint) project team: Université Côte d’Azur, Inria, France
  • A SKEMA teacher not affiliated with an UMR: Université Côte d’Azur, SKEMA, France
