The Virtual Center for Innovative Pedagogy (VCIP)

VCIP Director:  Eric Guerci

The mission of the Virtual Center for Innovative Pedagogy (VCIP) is to develop initiatives of excellence in innovative pedagogy at UCA and its member establishments, and to bring the necessary support and accompaniment toward this end, with the implementation of a tool, a pedagogy, a means of training and a network of participants. It is a resource center for accompanying the transformation of Education.

Different themes are at the heart of the  VCIP :

  1. Digital development. Indeed, today digital technology is unavoidable  in teaching, in docimology, in flipped classrooms, but also in active learning approaches such as serious games and in general, experimental and immersive simulations. These approaches allow the adoption of hybrid learning which results in a combination of online (e-learning) training sequences and traditional in-person training. The use of digital tools gives the learner the opportunity to have, to some extent, control over time, place and the means of speed. The VCIP, which participates in the engagement of UCA policy in teaching, also follows this logic in the creation of the IDEX program. A team is notably dedicated to Moocs and Spocs.
  2. The implementation of learning analytics. To accompany the transition toward more individualized and relevant learning pathways for the student, it is necessary to implement learning analytics. Measuring, collecting and analysing the data of students and teachers generates the production of data and reports which allow:

    • the development, on a personal basis, of a self analysis of one's own learning and facilitates one's position in relation to others;

    • to anticipate and predict students needing extra support and attention;

    • to assist teachers to progress in their courses to improve decision making of institutional administrators on questions such as marketing and recruitment or efficiency and corresponding measures.
  3. The development of pedagogical innovation since the pedagogical transformation is not limited to the digital context. The VCIP supports reflection concerning approaches by programs and competencies but also in active and differenciated instruction such as problem-solving, experimental and situational learning.  Stimulating students to encourage proactivity and engagement is indeed one of the keys to success in the transformation.  Concretely, the VCIP proposes occasions for reflection and training for UCA member faculty and invests in the training of pedagogical engineers mastering these approaches in order to best accompany the creation of innovative training.
