UNS and UCAJEDI Visiting Professors Call for Applications

By means of a joint call for proposals, the Université Côte d’Azur (UCA) and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS) wish to invite people from abroad with recognized expertise and who are renowned in their field for stays of one or several months. A total of 30 months of visits can be supported by the UNS budget and 12 months by the UCA budget, all spread over several visitors. The proposals will be jointly examined by the Academic Councils of the UNS and UCA to establish a single ranking.

Criteria:
This call for proposals is complementary to those of the same type funded by UCA members and UCAJEDI Academies of Excellence.
The following general criteriaapply for this call:
  • The project will be evaluated based on its scientific merit and the scientific renown of the invited individual
  • Artistic projects (UCAJEDI budget) should have a research component.
  • Particular but not exclusive attention will be paid to whether the visit contributes to the institution’s international strategy, especially with regards to: 1. strengthening relationships with existing partners (Laval, Irvine, Utah) and those under development (U. Sydney, ICTS and IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, Tongji), and 2. building connections with cross-border (Genoa, Pisa) and francophone (Vietnam, Montenegro, Russia, Tunisia, Senegal) universities.
  • For those months financed by UCAJEDI funds, emphasis will be placed on whether the visits support activities already launched at the UCA via other programs, particularly the eight core programs and other structuring actions underway. The invitations should thus aim towards developing collaborative research with different units on campus.
Additional criteria and conditions of eligibility:
  • Invitations will for be a minimum of one month and a maximum of four months. For visits longer than a month, stays can be non-continuous.
  • The invitation can allow a stay already financed by a UCA member to be lengthened if and only if the visitor’s profile matches the criteria of the current call and only by means of a request to the Academic Council and/or to the Vice-President of the UCA member which has granted the initial funding.
  • Invitations should encourage new projects and avoid “routine” visits.
  • Visits should include educational sessions for students as well as outreach activities allowing a broader community of not just specialists to benefit from the visitor’s presence. The form of such activities is free and to be specified in the application. Also, the number of activities will vary according to the length of the stay (order of magnitude for a stay of one month based on usual norms: 2 hours of teaching followed by a discussion with the students, 1 seminar for the general public or a broad scientific audience).
