Context and Objectives

BOOST MSc objective is to train students so they'll be able to conduct research programs and R&D of eco-friendly plant protection solutions. A major global challenge is to implement ecofriendly plant production technologies, while minimizing the hazards and risks to human health and the environment. This challenge is faced by all economic sectors that produce or use plants: agriculture, agrifood, cosmetics, pharmaceutics.

 

 

Key features

• Content in English provided by professors, researchers from “Université Côte d’Azur” (UCA) and invited experts.
• In addition to internships, students will acquire experience of teamwork by conducting mentored team-projects in professional situations: research projects, public-private collaborations, expertise, etc.
• Thanks to our large network of partners BOOST MSc will benefit from a direct link with the fast growing biocontrol, biostimulants and plant breeding innovation sectors.
• Training directly at the premises of the laboratories of the “Université Côte d’Azur” (UCA), in particular the “Institut Sophia Agrobiotech” (INRA, UCA, CNRS), first laboratory on biocontrol in France.

Academic Program

BOOST MSc program is organized in 4 semesters (1, 2, 3 and 4), over 2 years (MSc1 and MSc2). BOOST students must take a total value of 120 ECTS credits over the 4 semesters to fulfil the requirements of the MSc. The language of instruction and examination is English.

The course begins in September of each year, including  lectures, tutorials, seminars and a work-based research project. Semester 2 and 4 will be dedicated to internships and Master thesis. In each semester, students take 30 ECTS credits.

Autumn school

The first academic year will start with an “autumn school” of two weeks, where seminars will offer an excellent introduction to Biocontrol and Biostimulants. The core lectures will all be given by the scientists and non-academic partners exhibiting a huge background in this area.

 

A full set of knowledge (with 2 electives /year)

All courses are mandatory. Students will pick 2 electives Teaching units (TU) / year among compulsory courses (with the exception of Numerical tools, Law and Management).

Internship and Master thesis

Semesters 2 and 4 of BOOST MSc program are dedicated to internships and Master thesis:

  • 4 months in MSc1 from April to July;
  • 6 months in MSc2 from January to July.

Internships/Master thesis could be conducted at “Institut Sophia Agrobiotech”, one of UCA laboratories, at Partner Institutions or non-academic companies either in Europe or non-European countries. BOOST MSc teaching comitee will propose a list of internships in Science, Management and Entrepreneurship. However, students are anyway expected to search for their own opportunities.

Results of the Internship work will be presented as a report/Master thesis. The students will also give an overview of their work  in a conference with professors and invited experts.

Admission requirements

Program

European and non-European students are welcome to apply to BOOST MSc

Eligible students hold a bachelor (180 ECTS credits or equivalent with certified translation in English) and wish to specialize in research & innovation on plant genetic improvement, biological control, defense stimulation or biostimulation.

Required English level will be based on proof of good English competencies (TOEFL, TOEIC or equivalent). If application is of interest for BOOST MSc, English level will also be evaluated during BOOST interview by Skype.

BOOST MSc program is part of the French National University System, which is heavily subsidised by the government.  For EU students, the admission fees and conditions are the same as for a “master national” (300 € / Year). For non-EU students, the admission fees are 4000 € / year. Tuition fees >>>

APPLICATION

On-line applications for BOOST MSc are now open for students who will need a visa (All students living in a Non-European country), from December the 21st, 2018 to February the 28th, 2019: ecandidat.univ-cotedazur.fr/Master

You’ll have to fill in the application form online and documents will be submitted electronically through the application site.

Documents to provide are listed below:

  • CV (in English or in French)
  • Cover/motivation letter (need to be in English – Letter written in French will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your passport
  • Copy of your previous diploma and copy of your grades. These documents have to be translated (in English or in French) and officially certified. Students who are in their Bachelor year will send a certificate of registration instead of the diploma. However, diploma is compulsory and will have to be send as soon as possible and no later than the end of July.
  • 2 letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are compulsory. They can be written by a professor or a non-academic relation (internship chaperone for instance). The minimum is two, but you may submit more if you wish.
  • Proof of good English competencies (TOEFL, TOEIC or equivalent).  This document is not compulsory. If application is of interest for BOOST MSc, English level will be evaluated during BOOST interview by Skype.

Application for other students (European or living in a European country) will open in April 2019.

Results will be send by email.

If the application is of interest for BOOST MSc, student will have to take a interview, by Skype, before receiving final favorable recommendation. Acceptance letter will be send by e-mail.

Unfavorable recommendation: the student has not been selected in the 2019 BOOST MSc selection.

Practical information

Program 

The duration of BOOST MSc is two years (120 ECTS credits). The academic program is split into two years with 60 ECTS credits for each. The language of instruction and examination is English.

VISA

All students living in a Non-European country will have to apply for a visa.

Please check with your nearest Campus France agency, French Embassy or Consulate as soon as possible.

Depending on your home country, the documents required for visa application may vary.  In any case, you’ll need:

  • valid passport
  • proof of financial resources
  • proof of acceptation for BOOST MSc. Acceptance letter will be send by e-mail; and post-mail if required.

Right after arrival in France, students will have to start the procedure for RESIDENCY PERMIT. The OFII form given by the consulate during visa procedure will have to be sent to the OFII after arrival.
