Context

Alexia Barrier is the 1st woman to sail alone on a Vendée Globe sailboat for oceanographic research. Her worldwide adventure across all the Seas of the world is a fantastic opportunity for Science, but also for our students. She is currently preparing for the 2020 Vendée Globe (Race around the World circling Antarctica). She chose University Côte d'Azur and MARRES to accompany her scientifically. We are developing with her a scientific campaign associating visual observations, physico-chemical measures and plankton & plastic sampling.

 

Objectives

Develop the scientific and outreach components of the Alexia’s project.

Science: Create and maintain a qualified database, share with the scientific community.

Education: Develop coordination with schools through 1/ Develop teaching tools for teachers according to the level of students (common core). 2/ encourage the kids’ expression and collect their productions. 3/ feedback of Alexia and scientists on what the kids’ production.

Students must be francophone, autonomous, adventurer, proactive, responsive, comfortable with digital and new tech and able to communicate easily with all audiences, including scientists and children, open to entrepreneurial aspects. Student must be available sometimes outside conventional hours (race periods, representation ...) and able to travel (driver licence required, but no need of a car).
