Culture and recreations

The city of Nice provides its citizens with sports facilities.  In particular, the city offers AnimaNice centers, in which different sporting and cultural activities are available for a reasonable price (2019/2020 pamphlet). See the Nice sports website.

In addition, numerous sport clubs for all levels are located in Nice and its environs. See this site.

Cannes, the capital of outdoor sports, is not to be outdone. From hiking to its sports facilities, the city offers many options to stretch one’s legs.

Many sporting activities are also offered in the Mediterranean along the French Riviera.  In addition to introductory diving courses organized at different harbors along the Côte d’Azur, there are also numerous activities like riding on a jet ski, catamaraning, and sailing, among others for a wonderful time.

Culture and recreation

The Université Côte d'Azur Culture and Arts team (Culture Arts) concocts, co-organizes, or accompanies events for students and staff.

The majority of those using the Welcome Center live and work in Nice, and thus most of the activities listed here are in the city.  However, culture and recreation also have an important place in the other centers of the Côte d’Azur.  You can find ideas for cultural, sports, or fun outings on the websites of the tourism offices of both Cannes and Antibes.

Nice is a major center of cultural activities.  Its own surroundings provide plenty to discover, and there is much on offer to satisfy locals, foreigners, and tourists alike.

The city provides visitors with tourism and cultural information on its website, which permits everyone to enjoy Nice.  It is also possible to browse the site to find theaters, museums, opera, and natural spaces in the city.  See the Nice tourism website and this site dealing with cultural activities.

The Observatory of the Côte d’Azur:  The observatory is both an interesting tourist and cultural attraction for visitors.  Entry is 6 € (free for children under 6 and 3 € for students and children over 6).  Visits are only possible on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 14:45.  Credit cards and American Express are not accepted.  See the observatory’s website.

If you would like to explore the museums of Nice free of charge, ask for the Museum Pass at the entrance to one of the municipal museums or galleries (except at the Priory of the Vieux Logis).  This pass is good for three years and available to residents of the Nice metropolitan area.  To obtain it, a valid identity card or passport and a proof of residence from the last three months are required.

The Welcome Center has a partnership with a local recreation center, which offers different activities each day of the week, including a weekly language café. Don’t hesitate to contact us to get in touch with this organization.
