Introduction

The Master’s in Civilizations, Cultures, and Societies develops an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scientific approach focusing on the four historical periods; ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary. It proposes a deep and common reflection on history, the philosophy of history, the history of ideas and the cultural, artistic, intellectual and scientific productions that define civilizations. 3 tracks are proposed within the Civilizations, Cultures, and Societies program: Historical Sciences Heritage professions, history of art, archeology Philosophy and history of ideas

Objectives

The training offered within the Master’s in Civilizations, Cultures, and Societies allows the student to achieve the following objectives: - To acquire methods of conceptual and logical analysis, - To master the tools of research and treatment of sources of various natures, - To master the techniques of data processing, - To master the historical and philosophical issues in a given field and to build autonomously a scientific object, - To bring together varied documentation on a given topic (starting from traditional resources and then the web) and to organize it in a coherent corpus, - To develop critical thinking and critical analysis methods, - To be able to summarize and write summary and prospective notes, - To learn to build a rigorous scientific demonstration, - To write an original research paper of a significant volume, - To validate the results of research: oral communication, written publication, establishment of a doctoral project.

Specificities

In master 1 The Civilizations, Cultures, and Societies program offers a significant common core, while many components of the teaching units are also open to other courses in Semester 1 and Semester 2. For the "Heritage Professions, History of Art, Archeology" track, an internship of 4 to 8 weeks is required at the end of the first year. In master 2 The orientations outlined in the first year are affirmed in more specialized courses in which students can choose between ECUEs centered on research and units of teaching more immediately professionalizing (preparation for admission exams, training in heritage restoration professions). The program thus offers both specialized courses and inter/transdisciplinary spaces of reflection conducive to the intellectual mobility of students and instructors.
