Research directives include developing the settings-based approach to health promotion specifically in the sports club context. Activities for this research include:
  • Create and psychometrically validate the 3-level e-PROSCeSS questionnaire which measures perceptions of health promotion activities in sports clubs
  • Explore the needs, expectations and conditions necessary to implement health promotion activities within the sports club context
  • Capitalize on experiences from sports clubs currently implementing health promotion programs
  • Create a guide for sports clubs to promote health including an explanation and justification for the approach, steps for planning, design and implementation and measurement of outcomes
  • Create an intervention planning framework for health promoting sports clubs including indicators and strategies to follow
Once this research has been completed a Massive Open Online Course to educate sports club stakeholders will be designed and recorded. Additionally, a pilot intervention to test the implementation and efficacy will be undertaken.

An additional collaboration with the World Health Organization has begun to create and design a National Audit Tool to research national level policies and strategies to support local level sports clubs to promote health beyond sports competition.

I have also researched workplace physical activity programs aimed at increasing levels of physical activity in employees. This research focuses on the various programs offered and how the outcomes were measured.

I am additionally interested in how individual psychology can me mediated by the setting and social scenarios. This includes how behavior change models fit into the socio-ecological and settings-based approaches to health promotion. Embedding the two models can further help to increase physical activity levels, decrease drop-out rates and improve overall health through physical activity.
