The study of several key functions of organisms, directly related to human pathologies affecting the nervous system and the cardiovascular system, but also in connection with inflammatory diseases and certain cancers, allowed researchers of the IPMC to specify the normal and pathological functions of important biological systems. The discoveries made by IPMC researchers contribute to the development of new treatments against diseases (cancers, neurodegenerative diseases – Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, prion – cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, hypertension, inflammation, cystic fibrosis, obesity , strokes, depression, pain, etc.).
Publications
The IPMC welcomes several CNRS medalists (one Gold Medal, two Silver Medals, eight Bronze Medals), prize winners from the Academies of Science and Medicine, the Foundation for Medical Research, a member of the Academy of Sciences, three members of EMBO, and a foreign corresponding member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
Equipments
The IPMC has many cutting-edge infrastructures, allowing innovative work and the removal of technological barriers:
- Databases and bioinformatics tools, cDNA collections
- Expertise in electrophysiology, from ion channel to animal behavior, robocyte for automated screening of biomolecules
PLATFORMS:
- Structural genomics and proteomics / lipidomics CAPABIO (including high resolution mass spectrometry), benefiting from the expertise of 2 PhDs in chemistry
- Imaging and cytometry within the framework of the regional MICA platform (ISO 9001, IBiSA)
- Functional exploration SPF ANIMEX
- UCAGenomiX: functional genomics, high throughput sequencing, single cell
(ISO9001, IBiSA, France Genomique)
Partnerships
International relations
Wide open to the outside world, the IPMC collaborates with many national and international academic teams (Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, USA, etc.), either on its own or through scientific groups (GIS IBiSA, Cancéropole PACA, Eurobiomed and PASS competitiveness clusters). The IPMC participates in 2 Joint Hospital-University Labs (FHU): Inovpain and OncoAge.
Industrial relations
The IPMC develops and encourages fruitful interactions with industry, through research or consulting contracts, the filing of more than 150 national and international patents – several of which have been licensed – and by contributing to the creation of innovative biotechnology companies, such as the start-up E-Phy-Science.
Since 2018, the IPMC has appointed a Head of Knowledge Transfer.

The IPMC is a joint research unit between CNRS and Université Côte d'Azur. A world reference center for the study of ionic transport, the Institute has gradually extended its field of investigation. Its 19 teams conduct research ranging from molecules to organisms in areas as varied as pharmacology, physiology and functional genomics. This work aims to define the dysfunctions associated with many pathologies, and apply them in the development and evaluation of new diagnostics and treatments for cancer, epilepsy, and metabolic, renal, neurovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
