Introduction

The Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science has a two-fold teaching philosophy: first to teach Computer Science as a scientific discipline, and second to help students discover Computer Science as a wide range of constantly evolving technologies. This dual purpose is motivated by the diversity of jobs in to Computer Science, going from embedded, mobile and omnipresent IT systems all the way to company and management IT systems, including telecommunications networks, security and human-machine interfaces. The purpose of our bachelor’s degree is to meet all these expectations.

Analyze problems, model systems and build IT solutions based on the student’s knowledge of Mathematics and Computer Science: Isolate a concrete IT problem and decompose it into elementary sub-problems, and learn to solve them by using already proven efficient solutions. Present in written or spoken French, the analysis of a problem, the modeling of a system, or the construction of an IT solution. Understand technical and scientific documentation in English. Develop autonomy while carrying out programming or IT modeling projects, mostly in a team context. Take part in the development of IT applications using new technologies. Learn about the different academic and industrial jobs and career prospects open to Computer Science students, in order to select the right track and internships.

During the first two years, students choose courses in several scientific disciplines in addition to Computer Science. They are encouraged to take courses in Mathematics, Physics, Electronics, etc., before becoming more specialized over time. Computer Science subjects cover all the foundations of the discipline: Computer Science basics Imperative programming (python, C) Use of Unix and shell programming Data structure Formal IT tools Algorithmic approaches Databases Networks and telecommunications Operating systems Intelligent systems Web technologies Automatons and languages Functional programming (scheme, caml) Processor architecture Cryptography and symbolic computation Object-oriented programming and design Compilation Paradigms and interpretation Software engineering and development project Scientific IT project
