Introduction

This double Bachelor's degree provides: - Basic knowledge of Physics and related disciplines (Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and Electronics). A general education (foreign language, methodology, professional training) and laboratory projects are included in order to give students transversal competencies. - An integrated vision of Earth Sciences.

At the end of the three years of this double degree, the student is expected to be able to: Analyze and understand physical phenomena based on the theoretical principles of Physics and on modeling, using mathematical and IT tools and an experimental approach. Reason scientifically using suitable theoretical and experimental tools, and critically analyze the consistency of this reasoning with established facts. Write summarized reports, speak in public in French, and understand scientific texts in English. Conduct research through experimental or digital simulation team projects. Follow an experimental protocol using scientific equipment, identify the source of errors, program computational algorithms, analyze and process data in a logical and reasoned way. Make an objective assessment of his/her abilities, results, themes of interests and future prospects, in order to find and choose a suitable track. Understand how the Earth’s structure develops and be able to apply these principles to questions relating to natural resources, geological hazards and land use planning. Develop a scientific approach that starts with observation and goes all the way to modeling in different scales of time and space, while keeping a critical mind. Present his/her results in a clear and rigorous way, in written or spoken French and English, showing a good mastery of Earth Science terminology. Take part in a research study carried out in a laboratory or R&D department, or in an applied geoscience study for a regional institution or consultant agency. Conduct geological object studies as a team or individually, in the field or in a laboratory, and be able to work autonomously.

Students study the main fields of Physics and Earth Sciences, and also take courses in complementary disciplines (Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science), which provides a complete scientific training. Students also follow general education courses to acquire transversal and professional competencies (English, French, professional project).
