Introduction
This degree gives students an integrated view of biology. It focuses on the environment, biodiversity, biomedical research, plant health and improvement, and on understanding the basic mechanisms of living organisms. Students choose specialization tracks to focus on different branches of biology.
Objectives
Acquire a basic knowledge of the different levels of organization from the molecule to the environment, and be able to use it to solve scientific problems or analyze a research document.
Interpret data resulting from an experimental protocole using the suitable tools of analysis and develop a reasoned argument.
Autonomously implement an experimental protocol that is rigorous and reproducible.
Clearly communicate in French and in a foreign language.
Carry out a project in a team and alone.
Apply the main preventive measures in terms of Health and Hygiene, and respect principles of ethics and responsibility.
For each track:
Molecular and Genetic Biology (BMG):
Acquire knowledge in cell biology, immunology, genetics and development in order to understand the mechanisms that regulate biological processes at the molecular and cellular level.
Learn the basic principles of biotechnologies Biochemistry, Physiology, Neurology (BPN):
Acquire in-depth knowledge of biochemistry and animal physiology in order to analyze the pathological aspect of the major physiological and neurological functions.
Biology of Organisms and Ecosystems (BOE):
Acquire knowledge in population dynamics, interspecific relations, in adaptive phenomena in the broad sense in order to understand population settlements Bio-informatics and Bio-mathematics (BIM):
Introduction to programming, algorithmic knowledge and data structure in order to analyze and model biological/ecological systems at different scales.
Specificities
The first two years of study provide students with a theoretical and practical foundation in all the branches of Life Science and Earth Science.
During that time, students also consider their professional project and social responsibility, and acquire transversal competencies in the field of communication: in languages (French and English) and general methods (C2i). This program also provides assistance to first-year students in order to help them discover the university, confirm their choice of degree and prepare for their first year of study.
Courses are shared with those of the dual degrees "Chemistry - Biology" and "Earth Sciences - Life Sciences".
In the 3rd year, 4 tracks are offered:
Molecular Biology and Genetics (BMG)
Biochemistry, Physiology and Neurobiology (BPN)
Biology of Organisms and Ecosystem (BOE)
Bio-informatics and Bio-mathematics (BIM)
