Introduction

The FLE master’s degree is available to students wishing to become a teacher of French as a Foreign and Second Language (FLES) as well as holders of national education degrees wishing to acquire this specialization. Graduates will teach FLES to people at all levels and ages in various structures in France and abroad. Students design teaching devices and develop methods of implementation and evaluation. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the development and awarding of official certificates and diplomas in French. Graduates may be required to assume positions of responsibility in these same structures. They will also have the opportunity to lead teacher training in French-speaking countries and more widely, wherever French as a foreign language or second language is taught. A track is offered to students within the Master, entitled “Didactics of French as a foreign language and as a second language.”

The objective of the master’s program is to train students in intervention, expertise and research in the teaching of French as a Foreign and Second Language (FLES). Professional objectives To be able to teach FLES to various audiences (all levels and ages) within various structures in France and abroad. Design teaching devices, develop implementation and evaluation procedures. Know how to take part in the development and awarding of official certificates and diplomas in French. Acquire the necessary skills for positions of responsibility in dedicated structures. Know how to train teachers in French-speaking countries and more widely everywhere where French is taught as a foreign language or second language. Scientific objectives Graduates will be able to participate in research on the didactics of the FLES, on the pedagogical devices and on the practices of teaching in FLES, and will have the knowledge to pursue PhD training.

Master 1 Semester 1 3 UE of 24h including 1UE shared with the MEEF Master’s program, which prepares for the FLES test of the CAPES of Modern Letters 1 UE of 36h 1 UE of 36h that includes 8h of class observations within the CUEFLE. Semester 2 1 UE of 24h + 1 UE of 36h 1 Professional and Research Project: FLE observation and practice internship in France or abroad for one month (approx. 60h) and writing of an internship thesis. The project also includes 36h of preparation and follow-up of internship and initiation to research – level 1 The objective of the internship is to both deepen knowledge in the practice of the language class and to sensitize the students to the problematization of a didactic object. Master 2 Semestre 3 4 UE of 24h and 1 UE of 36h Semestre 4 1 Professional and Research Project According to his or her PPR the student will perform: - an observation and practice period of 2 months (approximately 120h) in a language center in France and/or abroad, which will lead to the drafting of a professional dissertation, the objective of which is to acquire teaching skills and to develop a critical reflection on one’s own practices as well as those of the teachers observed. - or a field survey that will lead to the writing of a research paper, the purpose of which is to prepare for possible postgraduate ambitions. The PPR includes 36h of introduction to the research and the writing of a thesis - level 2, which will take place at the beginning and at the end of the semester, the follow-up with students will be both face-to-face and online; All internships fall within the framework of a tripartite agreement, engaging the student, the reception site and the university.
