Axis 1: Freedoms and determinisms
Recent developments in the life sciences and new technology (in particular, digital technology) have made it necessary to rethink the connections between freedoms and determinisms understood broadly: brain-machine interfaces, cerebral implants, and AI are all areas in which various forms of freedom and determinism must be investigated.
The Chair is also interested in new characteristics of the determinisms specific to new technologies, as well as the nuances created by certain recent developments: for example, the concept of “exposome,” which refers to the set of environmental factors an organism is exposed to from its conception until the end of its life.
