Axis 2: Gender
Recent problems and biases within in the field of the living and the artificial are often linked to gender: from facial recognition to the detection of heart disease, gender biases are many and constant, primarily affecting women but also impacting men.
The UNESCO EVA Chair proposes integrating the question of gender into its research on the living and the artificial wherever relevant. It will do this in two ways: first, by paying particular attention to issues of sex and gender, which are often at the root of difficulties encountered in the field; and second, by integrating feminist epistemological and ethical propositions into its analysis of issues at the interface of the living and the artificial—for example, by examining these issues not only from the point of view of justice or equity, but also the point of view of care: that is, attention to and concern for others as well as oneself.
